Topic Brainstorm

Weather Gods (Māori Myths, Legends and Contemporary Stories)
This is likely the most interesting topic to me since I am a meteorology major. It would be fun to compare my scientific knowledge that I have accumulated over the past few years to the myths and legends that have been passed down through generations for centuries. I actually do not have any knowledge on weather folklore (other than knowing that Zeus supposedly used lightning bolts as weapons), but I do have a pretty moderate understanding of how weather actually occurs. Out of these stories, I would especially like to read those about severe weather such as lightning, hail, or tornadoes.

Astrological Origins (Space and Stargazing)
Another topic that has long been an interest to me is astrology and outer space, so these stories grabbed my attention as well. I do not necessarily have any background knowledge on constellation origins, let alone where to find more than 2-3 constellations, but writing about these stories would not only help me learn about their supposed "origins", but also what they look like and possibly where to find them.

OU Campus Legends (OU ghosts: Friends or foes?)
I am a person who strongly believes in ghosts, based on a couple of past experiences, so hearing other peoples' stories about their encounters fascinates me. These stories especially caught my eye since they occur within OU campus buildings. I never got the chance to go on an "OU Ghost Tour", so getting to read about which buildings are haunted would allow me to gain some knowledge on the history of our campus.

Cherokee Myths (Myths of the Cherokee)
Upon moving to Oklahoma nearly eight years ago, I got to start learning about the state's history and the rich Native American culture that resides here. Cherokee, being the largest tribe in Oklahoma, has plenty of myths and legends that have been passed down for centuries, so I figured it would be particularly interesting to read those stories. I especially enjoy origin stories, such as how a red bird got its color, so I am hoping to focus on those and learn about even more.
