Week 4 Lab: TVTropes

Spy Speak
This trope interested me because I always wondered how the words in "spy speak" were created when used in entertainment. I have seen it used seriously (like in action movies) and jokingly (like in cartoons or comedy movies). According to the website, there are typically three "types" of spy speak used: key words, metaphors, and sign/countersigns. Key words are used when people having a conversation replace peoples' names with common objects when discussing them. Metaphors are used when words and themes in conversation replace the business. Signs and countersigns are when unrelated phrases are used to make it seem like casual conversation.

Mad Eye
I found this trope by pressing the "Random Trope" button on the website and it caught my attention because it is such a minor, seemingly insignificant animation. This is described as a character having a much larger eye than the other momentarily while seeming to be "losing it". It can also be accompanied by eye twitching to seem more angry or upset.

Girl in the tower
One of my favorite Disney movies is Tangled, wherein a princess is held captive in a tall tower and eventually rescued. I enjoy this trope because, of course, it is the plot behind Tangled and also because when the "girl in the tower" is rescued, it is a happy, wholesome ending.  The website discusses that a useful tool is either a bedsheet ladder or Rapunzel's hair so that the rescuer is able to get up into the tower.
