Week 5 Lab: TVTropes

Big Guy, Little Guy
Going through this website pretty much always shocks me because I recognize so many tropes, but did not realize how common they are throughout film or literature. This was another one of those tropes that I have seen most often in cartoons where a pair of men work together, one being much smaller and typically "in charge", and the other being much larger and "dumb". The larger one is described as having good ideas occasionally, but they are ignored by the smaller guy and sometimes the smaller guy even comes up with the same idea minutes later to take credit. A good example that they gave was Timon and Pumbaa from The Lion King.

Parrot Pet Position
This was another trope that I did not realize was so common. It describes a small animal that is almost always found resting on their "owner's" shoulder, or somewhere near the shoulder like their head. A good example given is in Aladdin where his monkey, Abu, typically rides around on his shoulder.

Squashed Flat
This is a trope I have only ever seen in cartoons or very few, if any, life-action movies. It is described as when characters are squashed by really heavy objects or they run into a wall really fast and become paper-thin. It is almost always used in a comedic way as the characters do not actually die, but once they are squashed, their bodies become super light and others can roll or fold them up. Afterwards, it is common for another character to inflate them like a balloon so they can return to their normal state.
